Not so long ago I have created a poster for the stepPARFUMS company, which offers perfumery from Switzerland, Germany, the United Arab Emirates along with their own production.

The source files were two images: the photo of a model which would be placed on the poster, and the photo of the stepPARFUMS product.

First of all I worked a little on model: cut it out, added blur on the edges (2 px) to get not so sharpen borders. The girl should harmonize with the orange box, so I decided to impart orange tint to her body. I made tone down using slider Saturation in the Image/Adjustments/Hue/Saturation window, increased contrast using Image/Adjustments/Brightness/Contrast, and adjusted sliders in the Color Balance window (Image/Adjustments/Color Balance) to get salmon color. There are just some details remained. I added redness in her cheeks using semi-transparent brash with blur edges and mode Overlay, then increased brightness of the lips and temples. Top has the same tone with the body, so I selected it and added chilled colors using Image/Adjustments/Color Balance. Then I made hair and body semi-transparent. Here is the result:

As a next spet I started working on background. I’ve found a photo of the sky with clouds, image with sun rays, added orange gradient using overlay modes Overlay and Color Burn. And I got following background:

Finally, I cut out bottle of perfume, cleaned up some mistakes and spots, selected corresponding flower, made several copies of the flower, added orange tone and made it more contrast. Final touch to the poster is the company logo in the corner. That’s it!

Nowadays Web 2.0 style becomes more popular. Every day tons of sites which has simple, bright and very interesting things, appear in Network. There are no standards about creating any Web 2.0 elements, but we have several typical features, for example and clean colors, many gradients.

Today I want to show you how to create Web 2.0 styled button using Adobe Photoshop CS2.

Open the Photoshop, create new document for the button.

Create shape for future button using Rounded Rectangle tool on toolbar, specify round radius.

Right click on rectangle layer in Layers palette, choose Blending Options.

Set the Gradient Overlay effect parameters. I have following color of first and second thumb: 434343, third – 000000.

You can find Stroke effect parameters below. Stroke color is 363636.

Set the Inner Glow effect options.

As the result you will get following image:

Create rectangle using Rounded Rectangle tool, it will be used as button glare.

Right click on “glare” layer, choose Rasterize Layer.

Click Edit in Quick Mask Mode on toolbar.

Choose Gradient Tool, create gradient like following:

After leaving quick mask mode, you will get selection area. Click Delete button.

Add layer with text “Entries RSS” and RSS icon. Set Drop Shadow effect parameters.

Now you got following button:

After changing different effects parameters, adding or changing elements, I got following buttons:

Updated: You can download PSD sources here.

But nowadays there is one very efficient and great source of knowledge and experience sharing - video. Especially if this video has been created by professionals in your field of interests.

Just yesterday I came across really cool site with growing collection of videos on various technical topics which has according name - Best Tech Videos. There are lots of interesting links to high quality videos carefully selected by site owner. I think this is great idea to create such resource to help people to find useful videos today when all Internet is littery by dumb videos about “how to make a bomb with Coke and Mentos” (BTW, interesting thing, I was shocked ) or “My funny dog”. So, I would like to say thanks to site authors and will look forward for more videos about web sites and graphics design!

I love effect when some element on grayscale photo is highlighted using bright color, for example lips or eyes color on the face, without changing element texture. I want to show how to do this in Adobe Photoshop CS2.

First we will open photo in Photoshop, discolor it using Image/Adjustments/Desaturate:

Using Polygonal Lasso tool will select area, which will be painted over, but previously set Feather value to 1px to get avoid sharp edge of lips:

Now will select Brush tool and set following options:

I choosed following foreground color for the lips: BC2805. Then I painted over lips and removed selection. We can enlarge brush size and paint cheeks a little using the same color. We got attractive girl with red lips:

For beginning, let’s create some vector object, for example star.

We will put a circle inside it. Then we will select both object, choose Blend Tool and click at the circle and star vertex. As a result we will get something like following, depending on previous settings:

Will change settings to following values:

When objects are large, we need more steps. Now we can change outline color, opacity to get more satisfactory results. Let’s expiriment! Here is several examples of what I got using Blend Tool:

I think, this trick will be helpful for you one day.
